One Item, Two Ways: Beeswax Candles

July 17, 2020 Susan Castle

It’s time for another installment of our new series, “One Item, Two Ways,” highlighting some of our shared favorite items in the shop! (If you missed the first feature, you can catch up here!)

As many of you know, Chateau is a family business and is owned by husband and wife duo Dean and Susan, and managed by their daughter Kate. One key element in curating our shop is that we strive to offer items that appeal to our different demographics— Susan prefers Arts and Crafts era designs, while Kate’s style tends towards modern boho. If we can both agree on an item and see it working with both our aesthetics, we know we’ve hit upon something good!

One product both Susan and Kate swear by? Our all-natural beeswax candles!

Unlike synthetic-based and paraffin candles, beeswax candles actually help clean the air! When burned, beeswax candles emit negative ions that eliminate dust, odors, and pollutants that can aggravate allergies and asthma.

Additionally, we just love their faintly honeyed scent and natural golden hue in our homes. Inspired by the Nordic concept of hygge, or the act of creating a comforting and cozy space, we enjoy lighting a few candles for a soothing ambiance any night of the week, rather than saving candles just for “special occasions” (or power outages!).

Mixing shimmering mercury glass and dark wood candle holders atop her craftsman-style buffet, Susan created a beautiful and vignette in her dining room, complete with hand-dipped beeswax taper and pillar candles.

With a love of celestial-inspired designs, Kate burns beeswax tea light candles in a star-lantern (also available at our shop!). In addition to casting a lovely glow, the enclosed design protects the flame from her curious cats!

What elements do you add to make your home cozy and inviting? Share in the comments below, we love to hear from you!
